Pathophysiological Roles of PPARγ in Gastrointestinal Epithelial Cells
نویسندگان
چکیده
Although the highest levels of PPARgamma expression in the body have been reported in the gastrointestinal epithelium, little is known about the physiological functions of that receptor in the gut. Moreover, there is considerable controversy concerning the effects of thiazolidinedione PPARgamma agonists on the two major diseases of the gastrointestinal track: colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. We will undertake to review both historical and recently published data with a view toward summarizing what is presently known about the roles of PPARgamma in both physiological and pathological processes in the gastrointestinal epithelium.

P-68: Adipkines Play Major Roles in Sperm Motility and Function in Ram
Background: Adipose tissue is not only an energy storage tissue but also an important endocrine organ that secretes protein hormones. Among them, the production and secretion of adiponectin is inversely correlated to the severity of obesity. In adipose tissue, adiponectin production is transcriptionally regulated by peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ). Obesity is a major healt...
متن کاملADAM-15 inhibits wound healing in human intestinal epithelial cell monolayers.
The disintegrin metalloproteases (or ADAMs) are membrane-anchored glycoproteins that have been implicated in cell-cell or cell-matrix interactions and in proteolysis of molecules on the cell surface. The expression and/or the pathophysiological implications of ADAMs are not known in intestinal epithelial cells. Therefore, our aim was to investigate the expression and the role of ADAMs in intest...

Background: Several dietary factors are involved in cardiovascular coronary heart diseases, including trans fatty acids, which are generally formed during hydrogenation of vegetable oils, a process that causes conversion of liquid oils into semisolid fats. Nowadays, it is well-known that trans fatty acids form a major risk factor in the occurrence and progression of atherosclerosis. On the ot...
متن کاملPhysiology and pathophysiology of apoptosis in epithelial cells of the liver, pancreas, and intestine.
Cell death of gastrointestinal epithelial cells occurs by a process referred to as apoptosis. In this review, we succinctly define apoptosis and summarize the role of apoptosis in the physiology and pathophysiology of epithelial cells in the liver, pancreas, and small and large intestine. The physiological mediators regulating apoptosis in gastrointestinal epithelial cells, when known, are disc...
متن کاملCurrent Understanding of the Role of PPARγ in Gastrointestinal Cancers
Numerous studies have indicated that PPARγ plays multiple roles such as in inflammation, cell cycle control, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and carcinogenesis, thus PPARγ contributes to the homeostasis. Many in vitro studies have showed that ligand-induced activation of PPARγ possess antitumor effect in many cancers including CRC. However, the role of PPARγ in gastrointestinal cancers, especial...
